ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst Alderwoman Jennifer Veremis, who has taken the helm of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said Friday she would abstain from City Council votes dealing with the organization.

One such issue is the Explore Elmhurst Trolley, in which the city and the chamber have a partnership.

"I will declare my position with the Chamber and abstain from voting," Veremis, who represents Ward 1, said in a text message. "I am not aware of any other potential conflicts at this time."

In her message, Veremis said she looked forward to collaborating with the chamber's board and members.

"As a dedicated, long-time Chamber member, small business owner, and Elmhurst resident, I am humbled to begin this new chapter as the first female President and CEO in the Chamber's 106-year history," she said.

Last week, Veremis succeeded John Quigley, who took the top job in 1999.

Veremis was appointed to the City Council in 2020 and then kept her seat in the following election.
