Elmhurst Officials Plan Event To Stand In Solidarity For Ukraine
The April 6 event includes a day of giving and a candlelight vigil at which several community organizations will show support for Ukraine.
ELMHURST, IL — As Ukraine remains at war after being attacked by Russian troops, local officials along with several Elmhurst organizations have organized a day next week that will be set apart to stand together with Ukraine.
The City of Elmhurst, Elmhurst District 205, the Elmhurst Park District, Elmhurst Public Library, and Elmhurst University have partnered together to host the event, which will be held on April 6.
The groups announced that they will collaborate on the event in which Elmhurst community members will stand in solidarity with the heroic people of Ukraine as they fight to defend their democracy, organizers said in a news release.

As part of the vigil, community leaders will speak and members of Elmhurst’s Ukrainian community will tell personal stories from their homeland. There will be a moment of silence and the State Anthem of Ukraine will be read, officials said.
Organizers will also hold a Day of Giving on April 6 when civic partners will encourage community members who are interested in supporting Ukraine to consider making a financial contribution to established organizations that are working to support refugees of this crisis, organizers said in a news release.
A list of various ways to make these financial contributions will be posted on Elmhurst.org/Ukraine.
