Elmhurst Performing Arts Center Moves Forward: Official
It would be a "major coup" for the community, the mayor said. The group has signed with a major developer.

ELMHURST, IL – The long-planned Elmhurst Centre for Performing Arts is coming closer to reality, the mayor said Thursday.
In his State of the City address, Mayor Scott Levin said the center is looking like the "big dream that will actually come true."
The group's board, he said, purchased a couple of buildings on First Street. And he said it signed a contract with Minneapolis-based Ryan Companies, which has developed big projects in Elmhurst and around the suburbs.

The center is finalizing its plan to move forward and come before the city government, Levin said.
"That'll be a major coup to have something like that in downtown Elmhurst," he said.

Patch left an emailed message for comment Thursday with the center's managing director.
According to its website, the group wants to create space for local artists who will no longer need to perform in bars, church basements and schools.
The performing arts initiative was announced to the community in 2016.
