Elmhurst Police Meet Residents In Neighborhoods

Neighborhood Roll Calls allow residents to meet with officers and learn more about services they offer, police say.

ELMHURST, IL — The Elmhurst Police Department looks to connect with residents while informing them during neighborhood visits.

Elmhurst police have hosted “Neighborhood Roll Calls” every Tuesday and Thursday since late May. According to their Facebook page, it’s an opportunity for residents to meet with police officers and learn more about police services.

At their most recent Neighborhood Roll Call at Armitage and Howard avenues, officers Brendan Bruckner and Alan Webb met with 13 residents.

Bruckner explained how the police department was divided up into beats. He discussed recent incidents in Elmhurst and what residents can do if they find themselves in similar situations.

Bruckner also shared some programs the police department offers, such as bicycle registration, emergency alert services and the Elmhurst Connect mobile app.

Bruckner said the Neighborhood Roll Calls have occurred for several years in Elmhurst. He said they allow him to learn so much about the neighborhoods. Bruckner believes they provide an opportunity to educate residents and spread information.

"It’s a great way to meet the police officers," Bruckner said.

Residents like Nicolas Felix think it’s great Elmhurst police are interacting with his neighborhood. It makes him feel "they are here for us."

Felix’s neighbor, Patricia Hudson, views attending the Neighborhood Roll Calls as a way to support the police and learn what she can do to keep her neighborhood safe.

"It's important to find out what’s going on in the neighborhood," Hudson said.

Elmhurst police will continue to host Neighborhood Roll Calls throughout the summer. The next one will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Parkside Avenue and Van Buren Street.
