Elmhurst Police Official Retires After 30 Years
The official is credited with helping save a teen girl standing on a ledge of a parking deck.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst Deputy Police Chief Jim Gandy retired last week after three decades.
Gandy was promoted through the ranks to sergeant, commander and, for the last three years, deputy chief of operations.
Through the years, Gandy's roles included field training officer, evidence technician, tactical unit supervisor and crisis negotiator.

He has received both the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Award and the Illinois Chiefs of Police Lifesaving Award.
"Jim is a crucial leader on our team and I could not ask for a better friend and colleague, no matter the challenge," Police Chief Michael McLean said on LinkedIn when Gandy reached his 30th year a couple of months ago.

On LinkedIn, McLean described how Gandy and others won the lifesaving award. It involved a distraught teenage girl who was standing on the top ledge of the Addison Avenue parking deck.
