Elmhurst Restaurant Closes After Liquor License Woes

A year ago, the state barred the restaurant from selling alcohol after an agency found violations.

Krafted Burger Bar in downtown Elmhurst closed July 8. The restaurant let its liquor license lapse in 2023 and then faced allegations from the state's liquor commission. Its other location in Bolingbrook also shut down.

ELMHURST, IL – A downtown Elmhurst restaurant that was barred from selling alcohol a year ago because of alleged violations closed its doors for good earlier this month.

On July 8, Krafted Burger Bar, 111 E. First St., announced it was shutting its doors the same day in Elmhurst and Bolingbrook, its two locations.

"It's been an honor to serve these communities, and we are incredibly grateful for the memories made with you over the years," the restaurant said on Facebook.

In March 2024, an agent from the Illinois Liquor Commission showed up at Krafted in Elmhurst in response to a tip that the restaurant lacked a liquor license, according to the agent's statement. Yet the agent reported seeing alcohol being served.

The license had expired Nov. 30, 2023. The server's training certification had also expired, according to the report.

In May 2024, the commission offered to settle the matter with Krafted. The restaurant, which opened in January 2023, could resume selling alcohol in return for paying the state $5,000. However, the agency's records show that the business never renewed the license.

Patch wrote about the situation last summer. The Bolingbrook location had similar issues.

Former Jimmy John's CEO Gregg Majewski was listed as a co-owner of Krafted.
