Elmhurst Spring Clean Up Begins April 23

Residents are asked not to put material at the curb for Spring Clean Up until the day before the event.

Elmhurst, IL - The City of Elmhurst’s annual Spring Clean Up will be held on the following days, depending on your regular scheduled refuse pick-up day:

  • April 23 for those with a Wednesday pick up
  • April 30 for those with a Thursday pick up
  • May 7 for those with a Friday pick up

Acceptable items must be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on collection day, according to the city. Items other than large appliances, furniture and bulk pieces must be placed in bags, cans or boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds each.

  • Appliances
  • Bulk items
  • Fixtures
  • Furniture
  • Paint (hardened in cans with lids off)
  • Carpet (must be in rolls no more than five feet in length and two feet in diameter)
  • Construction and demolition debris (up to two cubic yards or equal to eight 33-gallon cans and placed in boxes, cans, or bundles)
  • Landscape timbers (must be no longer than three feet in length)

Unacceptable items include:

  • Ammunition
  • Boats or snowmobiles
  • Bricks, concrete blocks, cement, or asphalt pavement
  • Car batteries
  • Electronic devices
  • Explosives
  • Fluids
  • Hazardous or medical waste
  • Large automobile parts
  • Radioactive materials
  • Riding lawnmowers or snowblowers
  • Tires

Yard waste is not included in the Spring Clean Up, but it will be collected if it's properly prepared, stickered, and set out on a regular collection day. Residents are asked not to put material at the curb for Spring Clean Up until the day before the event.

It is illegal to put electronics at the curb for pick-up at any time, including Spring Clean Up.
