Elmhurst Woman Hit With Home Repair Scam

In other cases, police responded to disturbances at a restaurant and a veterinarian's office.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving home repair fraud, business disturbances, a scam, a drunk person, a domestic disturbance, a motor home burglary and theft. Here are the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Home repair fraud

  • A resident in the 700 block of South Hillside Avenue told police that a man on July 10 came to her house and said her stairwell needed work. After completing the work, he charged her more than the agreed-upon price, which she paid. She now believes she was scammed.

Business disturbances

  • Police responded to a disturbance about 6:30 p.m. Friday at Starbucks, 164 N. York St. The suspect was given a no-trespass notice. Another disturbance occurred about 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the restaurant. That person, too, was given a no-trespass notice.
  • After an argument on Saturday, Elmhurst Animal Care Center, 850 S. Riverside Drive, asked that a person be served with a no-trespass notice. The police did so.

Scam

  • A resident in the 800 block of South Euclid Avenue told police that he received a call Thursday telling him that his computer had been hacked. The caller instructed him to send U.S. currency to fix the problem. The next day, the suspect called back asking for more money. The resident realized he had been scammed.

Drunk person

  • A drunk person was found about 1 a.m. Friday in the 600 block of South Fairfield Avenue. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Domestic disturbance

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of North West Avenue. Two people were arguing. Officers saw no injuries. They asked the people to separate for the night.

Motor home burglary

  • A man told police that someone entered his unlocked motor home and stole his electric scooter, among other items. The burglary occurred between 4 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of North York Street.

Theft

  • Various items were stolen from a vehicle while it was getting serviced between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Super Ego Holding, 677 N. Larch Ave.

Loud music

  • A 50-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 700 block of Hillside Avenue was cited about 9:30 p.m. Sunday at his house on a charge of loud music.
