Fake Amazon Driver Tries Scam In Elmhurst: Cops

In another case, a business receives threatening messages, local police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a scam, threatening messages, a burglary, harassment, a counterfeit bill, a domestic disturbance, car burglaries, damage and theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Scam

  • A person posing as an Amazon delivery driver sold fake Apple products to a woman about 2 p.m. Wednesday near Whole Foods, 215 S. Route 83. An investigation is pending.

  • A man told police Wednesday that he received threatening messages that were directed at his employer, TranzAct Technologies, 360 W. Butterfield Road. The business wanted the suspect to be served with a no-trespass notice. The suspect, who appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for an evaluation.

Burglary

  • A resident in the 200 block of West First Street told police that someone broke into his locked apartment about 1 a.m. Monday. Several items were stolen. An investigation is pending.

Harassment

  • A resident in the 600 block of North Oaklawn Avenue received numerous text messages from a suspect after she told the person she wanted no further contact. She reported the issue Monday. An officer was unable to reach the suspect.

Counterfeit

  • The owner of Foot Heaven Massage, 595 N. York St., told police Monday that a woman paid for service with a counterfeit $100 bill two days earlier. The business contacted the woman, who said she was unaware it was a counterfeit. She paid what she owed.

Domestic disturbance

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about noon Monday in the 500 block of North Michigan Street. A woman told officers a man became irate and motioned as if to hit her. The man, who was picking up his children, denied the allegation and said the woman pushed him. No arrest was made because of conflicting statements.

Car burglary

  • Someone entered into a car in a detached garage on Saturday or Sunday on North Maple Street. Nothing appeared to be stolen in the car or garage.
  • Someone broke a passenger side window to enter a Kia Soul between 8:30 a.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of West St. Charles Road. The steering column was damaged. Nothing was stolen.

Damage

  • A fire extinguisher box was damaged Monday or Tuesday at the city's parking garage at 118 E. Schiller St.

Theft

  • Scaffold equipment was stolen between Feb. 22 and March 12 from an outdoor, gated storage area at Christopher Glass & Aluminum, 832 N. Industrial Drive. An investigation is pending.
  • A woman told police that several items from her wallet were stolen between Monday and Wednesday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. An investigation is pending.
