False Police Report, Burglary: Elmhurst Cops

A Villa Park man lied to police about a hit-and-run crash, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a false police report, burglary, domestic battery, retail theft, battery, DUI, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

False police report

  • A 48-year-old Villa Park man was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Friday on a charge of disorderly conduct by filing a false police report. Police checked video surveillance and found the man's story about a hit-and-run crash was incorrect. The man then admitted that the crash occurred in another town, police said. He was released.

Burglary

  • Alexander J. Begovich, 31, of Bensenville, was arrested about 1 a.m. Thursday in the Elmhurst 255 Apartments, 255 N. Addison Ave., on three counts of burglary. Police said Begovich forced his way into the parking garage and entered the mailroom. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Aggravated assault

  • A 28-year-old Bensenville man was arrested about 5 a.m. Sunday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, on charges of aggravated assault to a security guard, battery and criminal trespass to property. Police said the man refused to leave the hospital. While being escorted out, the man struck a hospital security guard in the mouth and attempted to hit another guard. He was released.

  • A 38-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 600 block of West Fay Avenue was arrested about 4 p.m. Thursday at his house on a domestic battery charge. Police said the man pushed a person. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • A 28-year-old Addison man was arrested about 3 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of South Hillcrest Avenue on a DuPage County warrant and charges of domestic battery (two counts) and obstructing an officer. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Retail theft

  • A 42-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both from Melrose Park, were arrested about 9:30 p.m. Friday at Butterfield Road and Cadwell Avenue on retail theft charges. The 42-year-old was also arrested on a DuPage County theft warrant. Police said the men stole liquor at Jewel, 944 S. York St. They were released.

Battery

  • A 31-year-old Maywood woman was arrested about 3 a.m. Saturday at Courtyard by Marriott hotel, 370 N. Route 83, on a battery charge and warrants from DuPage and Cook counties. Police said they responded to a fight in progress. The woman was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

DUI

  • A 32-year-old Villa Park man was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Friday at Willow Road and North Avenue on charges of DUI, improper lane usage, speeding and driving an uninsured car. He was taken to the police station and then released.
  • A 34-year-old Gary, Indiana, man was arrested about 2 a.m. Sunday at Kenilworth and North avenues on charges of DUI, improper lane usage and possession of open alcohol by a driver. He was taken to the police station and then released.
  • A 78-year-old Elmhurst woman who lives in the 500 block of South Fairfield Avenue was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Charles Road and York Street on charges of DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She was taken to the police station and then released.

Confused man

  • An officer responded to a check on the well-being of a confused man who had been walking in the street about 1:30 p.m. Friday near South Street and Fair Avenue. The man was reunited with his partner and taken home.

Stolen truck

  • An officer stopped a suspected stolen truck about 2 p.m. Friday at North and West avenues. The driver was taken to the police station and released without charges. A further investigation is pending.

Tattoo scam

  • A person at Elmhurst University, 190 S. Prospect Ave., made an online tattoo appointment and prepaid in mid-December. The person attempted to contact the so-called tattoo company, but found his phone number had been blocked.

Fraud

  • A resident in the 200 block of North Clinton Avenue told police Friday that he was contacted by someone posing as a Chase Bank representative, who notified him of suspicious activity on his debit card account. The person tried to gain access to the resident's account, but was unsuccessful. No monetary loss was reported.

Disorderly conduct

  • A woman was walking about 9 a.m. Sunday near Butterfield Road and Prospect Avenue when a man drove up beside her and asked if she wanted a ride. She told him she did not need one. He used foul language and headed north.
