Game Trade Leaves Elmhurst Woman Vulnerable To Fraud: Cops

In other cases, police responded to domestic disturbances in local neighborhoods.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving fraud, domestic battery, a domestic disturbance, a truck burglary, theft, harassment, porch piracy, an injured man and retail theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Fraud

  • A resident in the 500 block of North Oaklawn Avenue told police that a stranger accessed her Discover account Wednesday after her son traded characters with someone in an online game. No loss was reported. The card was canceled.

  • An 18-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 700 block of South Hawthorne Avenue was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at his house on two counts of domestic battery. Police said the man struck another person during an argument. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Domestic disturbance

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance Wednesday about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of South Berkley Avenue. Police said a woman told them that a man had hit her during an argument. The man denied the allegation, saying the woman struck him. No arrests were made because of conflicting statements and no visible injuries. The man and woman agreed to separate for the night.

Truck burglary

  • Someone entered an unlocked semi-truck and stole the computer hardware unit between 8:30 a.m. Monday and 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of North York Street. The truck is owned by D&A Auto Repair in Summit. An investigation is pending.

Burglary

  • A man told police that someone stole three credit cards about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at LA Fitness, 620 N. York St. The suspect tried to use two of them, but the charges were declined. An investigation is pending.

Theft

  • A catalytic converter was stolen last weekend from a vehicle in the 900 block of North York Street. The vehicle was owned by Elmhurst-based Chicago Fire and Water Restoration, 720 N. Larch Ave.

Harassment

  • A former acquaintance of a resident in the 400 block of East Oriole Avenue called the resident. The resident asked him not to contact her again. Several days later, the man texted her. Police told the suspect Tuesday to end all communications with the woman.

Porch piracy

  • A resident near Columbia and Kenilworth avenues told police Tuesday that his package containing three new iPhone 16s, never arrived. The UPS driver said a man presenting himself as the resident displayed an identification and received the package. An investigation is pending.

Injured

  • A man was found lying on the ground, bleeding from his wrist and finger, about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of West Butterfield Road. Medics treated him.

Retail theft

  • A 28-year-old Maywood woman and a 24-year-old Bellwood man were arrested about 2:30 p.m. Monday on retail theft charges. Police said the incident occurred at Jewel, 944 S. York St. She was released.

DUI

  • A 65-year-old Northlake man was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday near Michigan and North avenues on charges of DUI, improper lane usage and improper lighting. He was taken to the police station and then released.
