Gown Beats Town In Elmhurst Baseball Game
The city and university teams played by the far different rules of 1858.

ELMHURST, IL – The gown edged out the town in baseball action last weekend in Elmhurst.
But it was far from a conventional ballgame – at least by today's standards.
Elmhurst University prevailed over the city of Elmhurst 13-12 and took home the trophy, known as the Cottage Hill Cup. Elmhurst got the trophy in 2023.

The game was played by the far different baseball rules of 1858, according to a news release from the Elmhurst History Museum.
The museum's "Town vs. Gown" annual baseball game was held Sunday at the Elmhurst University College Mall.

The city's team consisted of elected officials, staff, commissioners and volunteers. The school's was made up of faculty, staff, trustees and alums.
Before the game, attendees learned about the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during World War II.
