How Elmhurt Cops Caught Car Theft Suspect
He ran into a park and was later found walking in a local neighborhood, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police used several tools in their successful capture of a man suspected of a car theft, according to a news release.
Joseph A. Savino, 42, of Lakemoor, was arrested on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle and driving with a revoked license.
He was wanted on warrants in Lake, McHenry and Cook counties, police said.

Shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday, officers saw the stolen white Chevrolet Traverse SUV that Savino was driving at a Shell gas station at North Avenue and Route 83, police said.
Savino sped east on North Avenue, police said. Officers deployed a tire deflation device on North Avenue, with the stolen car entering the ramp onto eastbound Interstate 290, police said.

The car became disabled on the ramp, and the driver ran into the woods of East End Park, police said.
Officers searched the area with a K-9 unit and a drone. In the park, they found a backpack that contained stolen property from a car burglary earlier that morning in the north suburbs, police said.
About 8:30 a.m., officers found Savino walking near First Street and Geneva Avenue, a couple of blocks southwest of East End Park. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
