ICE In Elmhurst? Patch Asks Officials
Local police agencies are barred from helping with federal immigration efforts.
ELMHURST, IL – With ICE around the Chicago area, Elmhurst residents may wonder whether any of its agents have conducted local operations in recent days.
Patch asked local officials.
In an interview, Mayor Scott Levin said he had been unable to confirm any presence of ICE agents recently.

Patch asked Deputy Police Chief Brett Kaczorowski whether ICE agents have been in town lately.
"The Elmhurst Police do not participate, communicate, or coordinate Immigration Enforcement matters with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). We are in compliance with the Illinois Trust Act," he said in an email.

The Trust Act is a state law that bars local police agencies from working with the federal government on immigration-related matters. In 2017, Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner signed the law.
Patch left a message with ICE's media office Thursday afternoon.
