Jury Duty Scam Targets Elmhurst Resident
In another case, an 80-year-old driver hit a house with a car, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a jury duty scam, a car that struck a house, fraud, a stolen ring, a dog at large, a fugitive driver and theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police blotter:
Jury duty scam
- A resident in the 100 block of South Chandler Avenue told police Tuesday that a caller claiming to be with the DuPage County Sheriff's Office demanded cryptocurrency for the resident supposedly failing to appear for jury duty. The resident sent the cryptocurrency. An investigation is pending. Last month, the sheriff's office warned about such scams.

- An 80-year-old Itasca man struck a house with a car about noon July 30 in the 900 block of South Kirk Avenue. The house is occupied by relatives. The crash was reported a week later.
Fraud
- A resident in the 600 block of North Howard Avenue told police that a suspect was supposed to pick up a computer for sale on the victim's porch and pay him through Zelle on Wednesday. The suspect picked up the computer, but did not pay.
Stolen ring

- A woman told police that her engagement ring was inventoried after she was admitted June 29 to Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. On July 3, she was transferred to another hospital. At that point, it was discovered that someone had stolen the ring. The crime was reported Tuesday, more than a month later.
Dog at large
- A 55-year-old Elmhurst woman who lives in the 400 block of South Mitchell Avenue was cited about 12:30 p.m. Aug. 4 in the 200 block of South Prospect Avenue on a charge of having a dog at large. Police said the golden retriever bit another woman on the right thigh.
Fugitive driver
- An officer tried to stop the driver of a car about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at Interstate 290 and St. Charles Road. The car had been reported stolen in Chicago. The driver sped away.
Theft
- A tenant stole fixtures and chandeliers once her lease ended July 31 at an apartment at 112 W. Park Ave. The theft was reported a week later. An investigation is pending.
