Man Thought He Had Rented Elmhurst Apartment: Cops
He signed an electronic lease and made a payment, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a rental scam, an unfired bullet, soliciting without a permit, domestic battery, a DUI and a broken window. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Rental scam
- On March 14, a man electronically signed a lease and wire-transferred a payment as a deposit on an apartment in the 100 block of West Third Street. After arriving at the apartment, the man found out the unit was not legitimately leased to him. Police received the report Friday. An investigation is pending.

- An unfired bullet was found about 9 a.m. Friday on York High School's football field, 355 W. St. Charles Road. An investigation is pending.
Soliciting without a permit
- A 39-year-old Chicago woman was cited about 4 p.m. Friday on a charge of soliciting without a permit near York Street and North Avenue.
Domestic battery

- A 23-year-old Elgin man was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Saturday on two counts of domestic battery. The incident occurred at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel, 370 N. Route 83. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
Domestic disturbance
- Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of West Gladys Avenue. It was determined that both parties had been arguing. They agreed to separate for the night.
DUI
- A 60-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 600 block of West Crockett Avenue was arrested about 2 a.m. Saturday at West Avenue and Armitage Avenue on charges of DUI, disobeying a stop sign and improper lighting. He was taken to the police station and then released.
Broken window
- A car window was broken between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of North Addison Avenue. Nothing was stolen. An investigation is pending.
Tenant blamed
- A landlord in the 100 block of North Evergreen Avenue told police Friday that a tenant damaged a door frame after being locked out. An investigation is pending.
