'Minimal' Costs For Elmhurst Police Temporary Station
The move is expected to be late next year, as a new police station is built.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst expects the cost of preparing a temporary police station to be "minimal."
At Monday's budget meeting, Alderman Jacob Hill asked officials about the expense of getting the four-story building at 180 W. Park Ave. ready for the police department's move next fall.
City Manager Jim Grabowski said the costs will be "fairly minimal considering the condition it is in."

"The (police) chief and staff from public works have been over there quite a few times looking around to see what needs to be done," Grabowski said. "We continue to be in that process right now."
The city has owned the building, which is next to the public library, for years.

The new police station is estimated to cost $48 million.
The major way of paying for the project is a property tax increase. Another source is the planned sale of the building at 180 W. Park, which the city estimates will bring in $5 million. The city assumes that the building will be converted into luxury apartments.
The current police station is 35 years old. It is considered in bad shape.
Last month, the city hired an architect.
