New Year's Eve DUIs, Heroin Bust, Illegal Fireworks: Elmhurst Police Blotter

The following items were taken from the Elmhurst police blotter throughout the past week.

DUI

  • Dustan Webb, 34, was stopped around midnight Dec. 29 for improper lane usage and was found to be driving his black Saab while drunk. He was arrested in the area of North and Melrose, charged with the DUI, no insurance, improper lane usage and illegally operating a communications device while driving and released on bond.
  • Abel Lopez-Garcia, 24, was stopped while driving early in the morning on New Year’s Eve for improper lane usage. Upon closer inspection, police determined he was driving under the influence and charged him with a DUI. He was also cited for illegally transporting alcohol in his silver Ford Taurus.
  • Oswaldo Gonzalez-Landa, 28, was charged with a DUI around 1:38 a.m. New Year’s Eve after police stopped him for speeding, improper lane usage and failure to signal. He was released on bond.
  • Anthony Goff, 58, was charged with a DUI around 1:16 a.m. Jan. 1 when cops stopped him driving for failure to signal and improper lane usage. He was arrested and released on bond.
  • Terris Alexander, 33, was found slumped over his steering wheel and sleeping at 575 S. York early in the morning on Jan. 1. Police responded to a call about the suspicious car and found that Alexander had been driving under the influence. He was charged for the DUI and found to be wanted on a warrant by the Berkeley Police Department.

Illegal fireworks

  • An Elmhurst resident living on the 400 block of Dorchester was caught with illegal fireworks the night of Dec. 31 when cops patrolling the area noticed large fireworks being set off in the area. After investigating, police found several spent fireworks and a box of fresh fireworks that Krzysztof Dymek, 55, was unloading from his car. He told police he was celebrating New Year’s Eve, and they cited him on site for possession of fireworks.

Guns

  • Lavonte Moore, 20, Nathan McDonald, 22, and a juvenile were caught with drugs, alcohol and a stolen handgun when police found the trio in a Ford Crown Victoria that had been reported the night of Dec. 31 as a suspicious vehicle. Moore was cited for possession of a stolen handgun, having marijuana and drug paraphernalia with him and underage drinking. McDonald and the underage participant were cited for possession of marijuana. Moore was taken to DuPage County Jail that night.

Drugs

  • Keill Cunningham, 27, was stopped at 5:15 p.m. Dec. 29 after police received a call about a possibly intoxicated person at 654 W. North Ave. Cunningham was found to have an arrest warrant out of Barrington for failure to appear in court, and police also cited him for having a suspended license. After checking Cunningham’s car, officers found two bags of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Cunningham admitted to using heroin about two hours prior and was arrested.
  • Nicole Bajner, 19, was arrested around midnight Dec. 29 for having drug paraphernalia with her in the car she was driving at the time. Officers had initially stopped Bajner while conducting a routine seatbelt enforcement stop. Bajner, who’s from Schiller Park, was cited for not wearing a seatbelt and having the drug accessories, and the two other people who were with her in the car — Adrian Dziekan, 20, and Juliana Palafox, 18, weren’t let off the hook. Palafox was cited with not wearing a seatbelt, and Dziekan was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Domestic battery

  • Erica Andino, 29, was charged with domestic battery around 7 a.m. Jan. 1 when police responded to reports of an argument that led to Andino grabbing a victim around the neck in a choking manner. Andino was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Forgery

  • Two Elmhurst residents living on the 700 block of Bryan were notified by Chase Bank Dec. 27 that someone had written and cashed two fraudulent checks using their account information.
  • A man working for Greater Chicago INS told police Dec. 28 that he’d noticed an out-of-place withdrawal while checking the business’s account. It appeared as though someone had written a fraudulent check on the account.

Identity theft

  • Elmhurst residents living on the 200 block of East Fremont reported to police Dec. 29 that they had received a telephone call around noon that day from a man who identified himself as an employee of Serenity Living. The man convinced the residents to give out personal information, which they’re now worried could lead to identity theft since after the call, they checked with Serenity Living for the employee’s information and found that no one under that name worked there.
  • A woman staying at an Elmhurst hotel at 933 Riverside told police that around 8:30 a.m. Jan. 2, someone she thought was the hotel’s general manager called her room and asked for her credit card number, claiming there was a “glitch in the system.” The woman complied, but later found out that money had been charged to her account.
