ELMHURST, IL – A northside Elmhurst alderman told officials Monday what his area of town needs.

"A sit-down restaurant, not fast casual. Nothing against fast casual. Nothing against fast food, but (a sit-down) would be great to see," Ward 3 Alderman Michael Bram said at a City Council meeting. "I know you're trying to assist us with it."

In response, Heather Bereckis, the city's business development manager, said she is always trying to sell North York Street. That's where the city has a tax increment financing district, or TIF, which is designed to spur development.

"Every business you can talk to, I tell them that it's the up-and-coming area to be," Bereckis said. "There's a TIF district there. There's availability there. There are people that want things to be there. So I just want you to know our team looks for people to go in there."

North York, she said, may see things happening in the next six months or so

"There has been movement on things that I can't publicly share right now," Bereckis said.

As for sit-down restaurants, Bereckis said the north side has one – Pho Lime at 561 N. York St.

"It's a sit-down restaurant if you like noodle soup. I do," she said. "Hopefully, we'll see you guys there."

That may be hard to do – at least for now. The restaurant is listed online as "temporarily closed." Patch left a message for comment about its plans.
