Residents Encouraged to Recycle Cooking Oil
Cooking oil can be brought Nov. 28 to the Elmhurst Public Works Garage.

The City of Elmhurst and the School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education (SCARCE) are inviting residents to recycle their cooking oil after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Residents can bring their used liquid cooking oil in a milk jug, bucket or other container to the Elmhurst Public Works Garage, 985 S. Riverside Drive, on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Cooking oil sticks to sewer pipes and can cause clogs and breaks that are costly for homeowners and municipalities to fix. Grease also interferes with the water treatment process at our sanitary facilities. Once collected, Green Grease Environmental and Chicago Biofuels will convert the cooking oil into biodiesel fuel.

Representatives from various organizations will be onsite at the collection to assist residents and ensure that only cooking oil is deposited into the recycling bin. Containers will be returned to the owner for disposal. Please see scarceecoed.org or call 630-530-3036 for more information.
