ELMHURST, IL – Retired York High School and Elmhurst CUSD 205 teacher and historian Michael Torney has published an original work of historical fiction entitled “Undiscover’d Country: A Sailor’s Niantic and Invincible Life Journey.”

Based on the diaries and notes of his great-grandfather, a famous clipper ship sea captain in the 1800s, Torney’s new book presents what the author describes as a "fascinating and entertaining true-to-life account of life on the high seas during the treacherous Opium Wars era, a journey of the soul that delves into universal themes of murder, mutiny, and mayhem."

"This truthful tale," adds Torney, "also offers an opportunity for love, compassion, and redemption, themes that resonate with the human spirit despite the world’s perpetual chaos."
