Elmhurst Historical Museum and Elmhurst Public Library will present a two-part special rock concert film series at the library, 125 S. Prospect in Elmhurst. The documentary films are presented in connection with the Elmhurst Historical Museum’s new exhibit, “Shutter to Think: The Rock & Roll Lens of Paul Natkin,” which will be open through Aug. 25. The first film will be shown at 6:30 p.m. today, Thursday, June 13. “The Last Waltz” is Martin Scorsese’s legendary documentary profiling The Band’s farewell performance. The next film, on Tuesday, July 9, will be “Stop Making Sense,” the 1984 Talking Heads concert film directed by Jonathan Demme and hailed by Leonard Maltin as “one of the greatest rock movies ever made.” Both movie presentations will feature an introduction and discussion led by Peter Hawley, an award-winning film writer and director working in feature film, documentary, television, and commercials. Mr. Hawley has been teaching film at the college level since 1996 and he is chairman of the Film and Broadcast Department at Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy in Chicago. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and University of Chicago. The two films will be presented in the Elmhurst Public Library’s first floor meeting room; reservations are encouraged.
