Short Change Scammer Hits Elmhurst Business: Cops
In another case, officers responding to a domestic disturbance found a person with an unserved order of protection, police said.
ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a short change scam, domestic disturbances, theft, a person begging for cigarettes, slashed tires and a broken security camera. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Short change scam
- A suspect completed a short change scam about 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Wells Fargo Bank, 333 S. Route 83. A further investigation is pending.
Domestic disturbances

- Police received an anonymous call about a possible domestic disturbance about 2 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of West First Street. The suspect was found to have an unserved order of protection from Cook County.
- Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 10:30 a.m. Friday in the 800 block of South Hawthorne Avenue. Officers determined a woman was unable to take care of herself. She was taken to the hospital.
Found phone
- A resident in the 500 block of North Indiana Street told police Thursday that her daughter lost her phone while walking to school. The woman was able to use a phone locator app and discovered the phone was pinging in Bloomingdale. The officer got the phone and returned it to the victim.
Theft

- Two exterior chairs were stolen between 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Thursday at the Beer on the Wall store, 105 N. York St.
Begging for cigarettes
- BP gas station, 217 E. Butterfield Road, told police Friday that a person frequently comes into the business asking for cigarettes and money. The store wants the person to be issued a no-trespass notice. Police found the person and served it.
Violated order of protection
- A woman told police Friday that she and another person violated her order of protection and met three days earlier at Clarion Inn, 933 S. Riverside Drive. They got into an argument, and the other person is believed to have battered the woman. An investigation is pending.
Slashed tires
- A woman told police that she found three of her tires slashed about 2 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Fellows Court. She had parked the car 12 hours earlier. An investigation is pending.
Broken security camera
- Someone broke a building-mounted security camera between Thursday and Sunday at Ahimsa Yoga Studio, 506 S. Spring Road.
