What made these games a little more interesting than average freshman softball games was the participation of the two coaches.

York is coached by Katie Schroeder now in her third year and who is a '08 graduate of York High School, a veteran of York's softball team and currently is teaching AP US History/AP Psychology at York.

Hinsdale South is coached by Megan Schroeder, a '06 graduate of York HS, veteran of York's softball team and currently teaching Drivers Ed/Behind the Wheel at York.

This is not the first time the two coaches have been on the field together. The sisters were teammates in 2006 on a team led by Tom Babyar, where both players played the infield and also took turns on the pitching mound.

Megan went on to play two years at the College of DuPage and Katie for one season at Elmhurst College. They eventually graduated together from Elmhurst College in 2012. After college, they went on to co-coach for the girls' Elmhurst Cougar 14U team.

Both young ladies are fierce competitors on and off the field, but once the game is over, they go back to being sisters and best friends.

They have talked about coaching together again one day and bring their knowledge, enthusiasm and love of the game to another generation of young ladies.
