Storm Knocks Out Power for Thousands; Chicago Skyway Closed

Is your home or workplace without power today? A high wind advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. tonight.

Thousands are without power this morning throughout the Chicago suburbs, according to the ComEd outage map.

Severe weather and high winds whipped through the area Wednesday evening and through the night. A high wind advisory remains in effect through 6 p.m. this evening.

About 149 people are effected by power outages Thursday in the area of Oak Street and West Fremont Avenue in Elmhurst, after a major wind storm blew through the Chicago area.

ComEd crews are working to restore power, and the exact cause is under investigation, according to the ComEd outage map.

The estimated restore time for this spot is 12:49 p.m.

About 54 people near Crown Road and Diversey Avenue have reported outages, and ComEd estimates service will return around 10 a.m., the map says.

Two areas just north of Conrad Fischer Park have several outages as well, one with 12 customers reporting problems and one with fewer than five.

Fewer than five people near Montrose and South Hawthorne avenues have also lost power because of the severe weather, and the estimated restore time there is 10:30 p.m., according to the map.

At Spring Road and West Jackson Street, fewer than 5 people have reported outages. Crews are assessing the damage.

High winds also closed the Chicago Skyway in both directions from the Indian border to 91st Street, according to ABC7 Chicago.

Officials closed the Skyway following a crash involving two semis, the Chicago Tribune is reporting. The crash occurred when wind blew scaffolding onto the roadway. No injuries were reported and officials say the Skyway will likely be closed much of Thursday.
