Elmhurst Police Issue Special Bulletin After Suspicious Man Offers Young Girls a Ride
Girls first see the man downtown, then again four hours later in a different location.

Elmhurst Police Department has released a special bulletin after two teen girls were approached over the weekend by a stranger, who asked them if they wanted a ride.
According to a police report, at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, the 13- and 14-year-old girls said they were walking downtown near Addison Avenue and Second Street when a man about 30 to 35 years old approached them in an older model, gray sedan and asked if they wanted a ride. They said the man was Caucasian, slightly overweight, with short brown hair and wearing a gray T-shirt. The vehicle had several thick horizontal black stripes on both of the driver-side doors, they said.
Police said the girls saw the same suspect and vehicle again in the 200 block of Cottage Hill at about 7:55 p.m. the same day. This time, the suspect drove by them and waved, but he did not stop or speak to them.
Elmhurst police want to remind parents to encourage their children to:
- walk to and from school in groups of two or more
- never talk with strangers
- stay away from unknown vehicles
- if possible, call 911 to report any suspicious people or activity
- report any suspicious incidents to the appropriate adults (police, school staff and parents) immediately
