Three Commercial Burglary Crimes Reported in One Night

Two burglaries and one attempted burglary reportedly took place within a few miles of one another in Elmhurst.

Elmhurst, IL - Two commercial burglaries took place the morning of April 9 just a few miles apart in Elmhurst, with evidence of an overnight attempted burglary at a third location.

A burglar alarm went off around 6 a.m. at a business in the 500 block of Lake Street, according to Elmhurst police, but no one was found during a search of the building.

Security video showed a man pulling up to the building in a light gray, full-size van. The man was wearing tan pants, a dark jacket, a hooded sweat shirt, a light blue shirt and gloves, according to police.

The man grabbed what might have been a tray of lighters and possibly some cigarettes from behind the counter, and he left in the van, police reported.

Around 6:11 a.m., police were sent to the 500 block of N. York — less than two miles from the first location — to investigate a burglar alarm. Someone had shattered the glass on the front door of the store and forced open the burglar bars, according to police. Several items, including cartons of Newport cigarettes, were taken.
