Trucks An Issue In Elmhurst Neighborhood: Official

An alderman presents possible measures for curtailing such traffic.

ELMHURST, IL – Residents are concerned about truck traffic traveling into neighborhoods from North Avenue, an alderman said Tuesday.

The problem seems to mostly impact streets north of North Avenue, Ward 3 Alderman Michael Bram said in a statement on Facebook.

He said he met with police and public works officials Tuesday.

"Even though enforcement is something that could be done, it would be very difficult to have a police officer there when this might occur," Bram said.

He presented several possible measures that may help lessen the problem:

  • Look into more "No truck traffic" signs with an arrow along North Avenue regarding such traffic on side streets.
  • Follow up with getting more wording on the current northbound Interstate 290-Lake Street exit ramp sign to include "To North Ave East."
  • Get the status, schedule and online documentation about the "flyover" from County Line Road to eastbound North Avenue.
  • Post "No truck traffic" signs on County Line Road near Lake Street frontage.
