Woman Suing Elmhurst Memorial for Misdiagnosis of Neck Mass

Her neck tissue showed complications in 2015.

A married couple is suing Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, among other entities, for misdiagnosis of a mass in the wife’s neck.

Gena and Michael Medema filed a complaint Dec. 14 against doctors Zeenath Asma and John Ortega, Associated Pathology Consultants-Elmhurst, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and Elmhurst Clinic for negligence in medical care, the Cook County Record reported.

A mass found in Gena’s neck was allegedly removed in 2012, according to the complaint, but the couple is claiming that Gena’s neck tissue was evaluated and treated improperly, since in 2015 “lymphoid tissue with abnormal squamous proliferation” was found in the area. This can be harmful, since squamous cells can be cancerous.
