Wood Dale Resident Pleads Guilty to Sexually Abusing a Child

The 33-year-old man pleaded guilty to the crime and received a sentence of more than six years in prison.

Aurora, IL - A Wood Dale man will go to prison for allegedly sexually abusing a child he knew.

Florencio Rivera, 33, formerly of the 600 block of Concord Street in Aurora and most recently of Wood Dale, agreed to a sentence of six-and-a-half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a class 2 felony, according to a release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors presented evidence that between March 1, 2012 and June 1, 2012, Rivera sexually abused the child. Rivera later acknowledged his actions to authorities. The victim was younger than 13 at the time.

In addition to the prison term, Rivera must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

According to Illinois law, Rivera is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He received credit for at least four days served in the Kane County jail.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Whitfield.
