"Songs For a New World" by Jason Robert Brown is a beautiful theatrical piece with unforgettable music, performed by many of York’s finest alumni. Rebecca Marianetti, director, is thrilled to have students, ranging from ages 19 – 25, back on the York stage.

“Working with these actors, who are now adults, enriches the lives of all of us. These young men and women are graduating from the finest Conservatories and Universities in the country, and pursuing what they love. They are taking time out of their schedules, many of whom are leaving Chicago the day after the performance for professional productions, to finally be on the same stage together. Songs for a New World is a stunning piece of theatre. This will be an evening of immense talent, pure joy, and great love," noted Ms. Marianetti.

Michael St. Peter states, “Performing this amazing piece is the best way that we can give back to the incredible theatre program at York. It's an experience that's always emotional, explorative, and full of joy. Having the chance to work together with good friends after high school is rare enough as it is, but pairing that with the caliber of performing that Ms. Marianetti and Mrs. Pettitt promote is truly one in a million."

Laura Thoresen reflects, “York Drama is so much more than an extracurricular activity, and a place to practice the arts. It's a family. Being a part of this community has proven to be one of the most fulfilling things in my life. Through York Drama, I have formed lifelong friendships and connections with so many incredibly gifted and amazing human beings. What I love about this production is that it allows all of us from separate classes, to unite and share an experience together, doing what we love. As artists, we are all storytellers. Be it singing, acting, or dancing, our mission is to share these stories with the world, and find the truth in these 'lies' that we're telling.

"The music in Songs For a New World gives us a glimpse into the lives of several very different individuals, with very different stories. I have always been moved by the message of this show, and I truly believe in it's ability to touch people. I am thrilled to be back, and feel so privileged to be working alongside my wonderful friends, peers, and mentors. I cannot wait to bring this story to life in a place that I call home,” she said.
