York Culinary Students Take First and Second Place in Competition

Students in Wendy Albert's restaurant management class at York High School came in first and second place in the Ready Set Cook competition at Kendall College Tuesday.

Six teams of students from area high schools participated. The students were given a mystery basket of ingredients that included salmon, brussels sprouts and fingerling potatoes. They had an hour and 15 minutes to plan, cook and plate their dish.

York students Katherine Diamond and Carys Hund won first place, and Matt Arnieri and Catherine Kent came in second. The judges were impressed with all the dishes, but York's dishes stood out due to students' execution of cooking methods, seasoning of food, knife skills and use of ingredients, according to Albert.
