Your Take: Elmhurst Police—What Do You Appreciate?

It's Police Week in the United States; in that spirit, we asked our local readers in Elmhurst what they appreciate most about their local force.

Did you know that this week—May 13-20—is officially Police Week in the United States? According to PoliceWeek.org

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

In the spirit of the week, we reached out to our Elmhurst readers on Facebook and asked what they appreciate most about the Elmhurst Police Department. Here’s some of what readers shared with us:

Millicent Chrusciel: “Coming out for my keys locked in car.” – Elmhurst Patch Facebook

Amanda Key: “I appreciate growing up with amazing Elmhurst Police Officers in our schools. Detective Visconti would eat lunch and play basketball with us when I was a kid, and Detective Wright was a great role model and friend in High School. They were both around all the time, and also came to Snowball with us. I will never forget it. Thanks!” – Elmhurst Patch Facebook

Cheryl Turek: “A great department! Looking out for the city of Elmhurst and its citizens. A lot goes on behind the scenes that few people ever know about.” – Elmhurst Patch Facebook

Jeremy Brady: “I liked how they waited with and helped us when our son had a seizure (we didn't know what was happening to him) while the ambulance was stuck at a train crossing. Or when the neighbors said drugs were being dealt out of a house EPD parked a marked car outside it on the street.” – Elmhurst Patch Facebook
