Nicor Construction on Dempster Street Starts Dec. 8

Nicor Gas and their sub-contractors, United Meters Inc. and NPL Construction will be replacing the gas mains and gas services in the area indicated on the map to improve the dependability and integrity of gas service.

This project will consist of replacing approximately 10,000 feet of old low pressure cast iron gas main with new high pressure plastic pipe gas main and replacing 500 gas service lines including new gas meters and regulators. Preliminary work is scheduled to begin December 8, 2014, and all construction is anticipated to be completed by June 1, 2015 with final restoration to be completed by June 30, 2015.

Construction hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There may be times when construction crews will work on Saturday to maintain the proposed schedule.

Parking restrictions will be placed as needed to provide a safe work zone for construction workers. Flaggers will be used as necessary to assist pedestrians and vehicles through the work areas.

During various stages of the project, personnel from United Meters Inc. (UMI) and NPL Construction (Nicor subcontractors) may need access to affected properties. They and all other Nicor crews and hired contractors will have Nicor-issued ID cards and will present them if requested.
