EP Youth Department Summer Events

Game Night, Kayaking Trip, Art in the Youth Garden fill the summer schedule

We might be halfway through the summer, but the Evergreen Park Youth Department continues to keep a full menu of programs and activities available for the Evergreen Park students.

“Our Youth Center is busy every day,” said Youth Department Director Pyeisha Allen. “Our kids come in to keep cool, play some games and have fun with some of their friends. But we like to offer special events to appeal to a variety of interests.”

The Youth Garden Program has been a terrific success, and students can learn how to make their own pickles! The “Rise and Brine” event takes place two days next week, Tuesday and Thursday, July 15 and 17. The afternoon festivities begin at 4:00pm in the Youth Center and are open to students from Grades 4 to 12. Reservations for attendance are recommended, which you can do by calling (708) 229-3377.

“In 2024, we offered a Kayaking Trip to Lake Katherine,” Ms. Pyeisha continued. “It was such a success that we are happy to offer it again!” The Second Annual Trip will take place on Saturday, August 2. Students can develop their kayaking skills on a one-mile lake, which is a perfect opportunity for new or beginning kayakers. Lessons and life jackets are provided, and Youth Department Staff will be on the water, supervising and assisting. After kayaking, kids can enjoy a guided hike around the lake, followed by lunch. The fee is $30, with the event open to students age 10-17. The bus leaves the Community Center at 10:00am, with an expected return at 3:30pm.

The Youth Department mission is very positive, as it states, “Working together, we can implement excellent and exciting activities, programs and opportunities for the youths of Evergreen Park”. For many years, the Youth Department has done just that!

Also, you will find the Youth Department at the upcoming “Party In The Park” event at Klein Park on Thursday, July 24. They will be offering tasty treats!
