Arbury Hills Students Learn To Code Video Games

Elementary students at Arbury Hills in Mokena were introduced to computer programming by learning to code video games.

FRANKFORT, IL — Arbury Hills elementary students learned to program computers as part of the Hour of Code program, a national, grassroots project that introduces children to computer science.

Students learned a simple, block-style way of programming to code video games.

First- and second-graders coded maze activities related to Ice Age, Angry Birds and Star Wars.

Older students worked with several games, including Dance Party, Minecraft and The Grinch: Saving Christmas with Code.

They used curriculum developed by www.code.org. The site is offered by a nonprofit that aims to teach women and underrepresented populations computer programming.
