Fiancee Courture Features Mother of the Bride/Groom Gowns
They deserve to look and feel beautiful.

By Rachel Gilmore
For Fiancee Couture owner Maria Isabel, the most important thing for women when shopping for their “mother of” dress is to recognize that they are special, whether they gave birth to the bride or the groom. And they each deserve to look and feel beautiful when their children walk down the aisle.
“I don’t understand why there is this division between the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom. I hear mothers of the groom say, ‘I don’t want to upstage the mother of the bride.’ I always tell them, ‘You are both important!” Maria Isabel explains.

That’s why Maria Isabel loves to work with mothers, taking time to talk with them about their color and style preferences and giving them advice on the most flattering palette and silhouette.
“Color is going to depend on the season and what kind of wedding it is, outdoor or indoor, formal or casual,” she says.

Her one color caveat to mothers, though, is to avoid the same shade as the bridesmaids or the decorations.
“You don’t want to blend in to the background in the photos,” Maria Isabel advises. “You should stand out.”
Maria Isabel also reveals that her clients, while wanting to establish their place as “mother of” don’t want to look old.
“Traditional mother-of-the-bride dresses are dated,” she explains. “Mothers today are going shorter and chic-er. They want to be fashionable and elegant, not frumpy.”
