Fire, Smoke Expected During 3-Day Frankfort Training Exercise

Other area firefighters will join Frankfort Fire Protection District crews in the event this week. Find out when and where it will happen.

FRANKFORT, IL — Crews from the Frankfort Fire Protection District, as well as other area fire districts, will participate in a three-day training exercise early this week along West Lincoln Highway, weather permitting, the department announced. Residents can expect to see an increased presence of emergency vehicles and possible smoke and fire during the event near the Windy Hill subdivion, according to the district.

The training exercise will be between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m Monday, April 9, to Wedesday, April 11, and will use an abandoned building at 8531 Lincoln Hwy., the district said. Because the exercise will be a live event, resdients are urged to avoid the Windy Hill subdivision around Lincoln Highway in order to allow emergency vehicles to access the area.

Weather will play a factor in the exercise, and wind and other issues could force the training to be postponed until later in the week. If all goes accordingly, residents will be allowed to walk to the Lincoln Highway viewing area at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the district said.
