FRANKFORT, IL — Local residents will have the opportunity to meet with Frankfort Village officials and view plans of a proposed bike path along the Sauk Trail when the village hosts an open house next week.

Village officials will host the event at 5 p.m. on Monday in the board room of the Frankfort Village Hall, which is located at 432 Nebraska St. The open house will provide residents with the opportunity to find out more about the proposed bike trail project and view maps of what the trail would look like if completed.

Village officials, along with the village’s engineering consultant, will be on hand for residents to meet with during the open house.

Village officials have said they plan to apply for an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program grant to help cover the cost of the project. The bike trail project would complete a one-mile gap of the existing trail network, village officials said.

Michael Schwarz, Frankfort's director of community and economic development, told Patch on Wednesday that costs for the project are internal estimates at this time. He said that village officials may have a better idea of what kind of budget the project will have after Monday's open house and could be affected by possible adjustments to the project that come out of the open house.

The proposed leg of the project would connect the existing bike and walking path to the east side of Pfeiffer Road to the intersection of Sauk Trail and 80th Avenue across from Chelsea Intermediate School.

More information about the project is available on the village’s website.
