Graffiti Threatening Shooting Found At Summit Hill Junior High

An increased police presence has been at the school since the threat was discovered Thursday, the Will County Sheriff's Office says.

FRANKFORT, IL — Will County sheriff's detectives are investigating graffiti that threatened to shoot up Summit Hill Junior School, according to the law enforcement agency. The school has had an increased police presence since the graffiti was discovered Thursday afternoon, Will County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

Authorities were contacted after a janitor found the graffiti at around noon Thursday, April 19, in a school bathroom, Hoffmeyer said. The graffiti threatened a shooting at the school Thursday, she said.

Sheriff's deputies and detectives canvased the grounds and did a walk-through of classrooms and the entire building Thursday afternoon, according to Hoffmeyer. However, no other signs of a threat were uncovered.

An increased police presence remained at the school Thursday, and that was the case Friday, as well, Hoffmeye said.

"[Deputies] stayed at the school the rest of the day [Thursday] and were very present during dismissal time," she said.

No suspect has been found in the case, and sheriff's detectives are still investigating the incident, Hoffmeyer said.

This isn't the first piece of threatening graffiti left at the school, according to Hoffmeyer. Graffiti concerning a shooting and containing a cartoon character was discovered April 7 at the school, she said. It is unclear when the sheriff's office was contacted about this previous graffiti.

An email was sent to parents alerting them of the incident, Hoffmeyer said. Officials at Summit Hill School District 161 were contacted, but Supt. Barb Rains had not responded by the time of publication.
