Village Expected To Vote On Vacation Rental Property Amendment

The Village of Frankfort Board of Trustees is scheduled to take up the issue at its Monday meeting.

FRANKFORT, IL — The Village of Frankfort Board of Trustees is expected to consider adding a vacation rental property ordinance at its Monday regular meeting, according to the agenda posted by the Village.

The proposed ordinance would set limits on where vacation rental properties could operate, for how long, and establish licensing fees and penalties for violations.

  • Limiting the amount of time a property could be rented out to 60 days in a year, and limit renting to any individual for more than 14 consecutive days.
  • Establish a $200 application fee for those wishing to list their property as a vacation rental, and require a $100 annual license fee.
  • Grant power to the Building Department to conduct inspections on the rental property.
  • Require vacation rental licensees to be located within 30 miles of the property and be available to promptly respond to complaints at all times during the rental.
  • Set a limit of no more than 10 guests at a property at a given time.
  • Prohibit pets other than service animals to be allowed by guests.
  • Prohibit renting the property for weddings, conferences, parties or meetings.
  • Require approval for any vacation rental property regulated by a condominium, neighborhood or homeowner's association by that association or its board.

Violations of the proposed ordinance could result in fines ranging from $50-$750 per offense, and could result in the vacation rental license being pulled.

The Village Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. Monday with a public hearing on a proposed annexation of a property located at 21060 S. 84th Ave. The regular meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the Village Board Room at the Village Administration Building, 432 W. Nebraska Street in Frankfort.
