Young Anglers Enjoy Frankfort’s Virtual Fishing Derby

Kids ranging in age from 3 to 12 participated in this catch-and-release derby held at Prairie Park in historic downtown Frankfort.

FRANKFORT, IL—The annual “Get Hooked on Frankfort” catch-and-release fishing derby went virtual this year.

Kids ranging in age from 3 to 12 participated in this catch-and-release derby held at beautiful Prairie Park in historic downtown Frankfort from June 1 through June 14.

Prizes were awarded for the largest fish caught in each age category (3 to 7 and 8 to 12). This year’s winners were Brayden Schalmo, 7, of Frankfort who reeled in a 16 inch bass and Luke Tyrka, 8, who caught a 6 1⁄4 inch fish.

Both anglers were awarded a new fishing pole and a gift certificate to a Frankfort restaurant. All participants receive a “Get Hooked on Frankfort” t-shirt.

“The videos show that our young fishermen and women seemed to greatly enjoy fishing with their families. We were very pleased to find a way to safely hold this event for Frankfort families,” commented Mayor Jim Holland.
