$10M Grant Program To Support Small Biz, Nonprofits In Kane Co.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County is set to spend about $10 million of its federal coronavirus-relief funding to give small businesses and nonprofit organizations a helping hand amid the pandemic.

County officials are expected to open online application portals Friday at the end of informational webinars for businesses and organizations interested in applying. A webinar starts at 10:30 a.m. Friday for small business owners who are interested in applying, with a nonprofit-focused webinar scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday.

The Kane County Board has set aside about $8 million of its nearly $93 million in CARES funding to provide grants for small businesses and $2 million to support nonprofit health and social service organizations.

Businesses can apply for a grant of up to $20,000 if they had 50 or less full-time employees as of March 1 and can show they lost income due to coronavirus-related restrictions.

Kane County businesses that were forced to close their doors during the pandemic must have reopened by Aug. 1 to be eligible. Businesses that earned more than $2.5 million in gross revenue during 2019 will not be eligible for grants from the program.

Businesses that opened after Jan 1., 2019, will be eligible for grants of up to $10,000 if they meet the other requirements.

Coronavirus Cases Climb Significantly In Kane Co. During August

Nonprofits must be incorporated as 501(c)(3) organizations and provide services from a facility within Kane County to qualify for the grant program. County officials have not set a maximum amount for grants to nonprofits.

The application window for small businesses and nonprofits in Kane County will close at 5 p.m. Oct 2. Applications will be available on the Kane County website.

In addition to the $10 million grant programs, the county is set to distribute between $30 million and $35 million to local municipalities. Kane County will keep about half of its federal coronavirus-relief funding to support its health department, sheriff's office and information technology department.
