Another Water Main Breaks In Downtown Geneva

Although the problem didn't require crews to shut down any streets, drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes Wednesday morning.

GENEVA, IL — The water leak Wednesday morning in downtown Geneva has been fixed, and crews have cleared the work zone, officials said around 1 p.m.

City officials first cited the problem at the southwest corner of Third and Hamilton streets as a water main break but said in an update it was attributed to an old abandoned service line that was not disconnected from the water main.

The Geneva Public Works Department responded to the issue, which occurred before 8:30 a.m. a few blocks from where a water main break occurred the previous morning, Patch reported.

Although the problem didn't require crews to shut down any streets, drivers were encouraged to use alternate routes. If not, they were able to cross the intersection slowly as crews worked in the area.

Crews responded to the first water main break Tuesday morning on Seventh Street, requiring the roadway to close from Franklin to Fulton streets.
