Atlas Chicken Shack Opens in Geneva

The chicken crossed the road (literally) and found its way to Atlas Chicken Shack.

Southern-style buttermilk fried chicken is making its way to Geneva with the much anticipated opening of Atlas Chicken Shack. It’s the sister restaurant to Preservation Bread & Wine with the same owner Lawrence Colburn. The take-out only establishment is located at 511 S. 3rd St, just steps away from Preservation.

“I have been looking at it from Preservation and looking at it and thinking, ‘What’s that old building look like? What does it want to be?” And I just felt it wanted to be a chicken shack," Colburn said in the Kane County Chronicle. "I’ve been looking at it for six years, since we opened [Preservation] over here. It was really the feel, the look of the place,” said Colburn.

The building is 100 years old and less than 400 square feet, according to Colburn in the story.

Atlas Chicken Shack had a soft opening on July 1 but eventually ran out of their locally-sourced free-range chicken. The restaurant was forced to close for five days earlier this month to restock birds from Miller Poultry, an Amish farm in Northwest Indiana, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

The restaurant reopened on July 12 and is serving up some serious chicken served to your liking: fried or grilled, served in a bowl, a box or on a bun. Sides include house-made pickles, rice and black beans, rice balls, cheddar biscuits, a trio of pollo sauces to choose from, and much more.
