City Officials to Give Residents Details Next Week on Upcoming Months-Long Roadwork

Geneva residents and merchants are invited to attend a public information meeting highlighting the city's upcoming roadwork.

GENEVA, IL - Geneva residents and merchants are invited to attend a public information meeting highlighting the city's 2017 Street Improvement Program projects set for this summer.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, at the Geneva Public Works Department, 1800 South St. Attendees should enter through the door on the east side of the building, officials noted. City staff members will be poised that evening to give an overview of the construction projects on tap for July through October. Residents will be able to ask questions about the plans.

Projects include reconstruction work for Richards Street, Stevens Street and the parking lot at the southwest corner of Hamilton and Second streets. Jefferson Street, from School to Bennett streets, will undergo curb and drainage structure removal and replacement; and State Street, from Simpson to Kansas streets, will be patched.

"All other projects will include street resurfacing along with spot repairs of the sidewalk and curb," officials said. "During road construction, there will be partial closings periodically. Streets that are being resurfaced should remain open to motorists, but traffic to move much slower through the work zones. People are encouraged to find alternate routes when possible."

Residents will be notified prior to contractors working on their streets, and crew members will knock on doors before potentially blocking driveways. Garbage collection and mail delivery should not be affected.
