KANE COUNTY, IL — A former Carpentersville Middle School teacher who lives in Geneva pleaded guilty Friday to felony criminal sexual assault charges stemming from accusations she assaulted two minors she knew between July 2013 and May 2015, according to a release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. Lindsey Anderson, 31, of the 900 block of Foxwood Drive, pleaded guilty criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, the release said.

During Friday's plea hearing, Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Lori Schmidt said that between July 2013 and May 2015 Anderson sexually assaulted the two victims, who at the time were younger than 18 years old, according to the state's attorney's office. During this period, Anderson was a Community Unit School District 300 employee, teaching at Carpentersville Middle School and working as a coach at Dundee-Crown High School, the release said.

According to Schmidt, Anderson wasn't the victims' teacher when the crimes took place, but as their previous teacher she took advantage of her prior relationship with the victims, the release added.

“Ms. Anderson leveraged her position as a teacher to gain these victims’ trust and then selfishly took advantage of that trust," Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said, in the release. "As a teacher, she was in a position of authority and clearly knew that what she did was wrong and harmful to these children. Her felony conviction and upcoming prison sentence should send a clear message of the consequences of this type of behavior.”

Anderson faces a sentence of between 4 and 22 years behind bars in the Illinois Department of Corrections, the state's attorney's office said, adding that she must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
