Former Geneva Police Chief Dies

​Glenn H. McConnaughay was the chief of police for Geneva for 12 years. He died at age 96.

Glenn H. McConnaughay, a former police chief in Geneva for over a decade, died at the age of 96. McConnaughay died on Sept. 12 surrounded by his loving family at The Halmstad in Batavia. McConnaughay began his career as a police officer in 1949 and was the chief of police for Geneva for 12 years.

Glen also served in the Army Air Core as a military police officer in World War II, according to his obituary. He started the Kane County Chief of Police Association and was a member of the American Legion Post 75. He also loved fishing, woodworking and was a devoted family man.

A visitation and funeral was held last week for McConnaughay. The city of Geneva also flew its flags at half-staff last week in his memory as well as the in memory of community contributor, Sally Ruark. Ruark died at the age of 85 and "was a stalwart friend of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce," according to a city news release. As an artist, she created sculpture, paintings, drawings, installations and the city logo for Geneva.
