Geneva Car Crash Leaves 2 Drivers Seriously Injured: Police

The crash on East State Street shut down the road for around three hours as police investigated.

GENEVA, IL — Two people were seriously injured in a crash that shut down East State Street for approximately three hours early Saturday morning, according to police.

In a press release, Geneva police said they were called to the 200 block of East State Street along with Geneva firefighters around 1:37 a.m. for a serious crash. Police said a 28-year-old Batavia resident was driving a Mazda CS-X north on Crissy Avenue and allege that the driver did not stop at the stop sign at the East State Street intersection.

A 22-year-old Geneva resident was going eastbound on East State Street in a Honda Accord. Police said the Mazda entered the intersection and struck the Honda Accord.

The Honda Accord was pushed into the front yard of a home and came to a rest after hitting some bushes and cement stairs, according to police. There did not appear to be any structural damage to the home at this time, police said.

Both driver were taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the role of alcohol and/or drugs is being investigated as a possible contributing factor in the crash. No arrest has been made at this time, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
