Geneva Fourth of July Reminders: City Offices Close; Garbage Pickup and Rates Change

City officials are reminding residents to plan around a few local services that will be impacted by the upcoming holiday.

GENEVA, IL - Local officials are reminding residents this week that Geneva City Hall and all other offices — except police or fire stations — will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, for Independence Day.

Normal business hours will resume on Wednesday, they said. Additionally, the garbage collection schedule will be impacted by the holiday.

Garbage is picked up on Thursdays or Fridays in Geneva.

Residents should plan to set their trash out according to the following updated refuse collection schedule:

  • Week of June 26: Thursday June 29, and Friday, June 30
  • Week of July 3: Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 8
    • One day later than normal
  • Week of July 10: Thursday, July 13 and Friday, July 14

Starting Saturday, July 1, the price of garbage stickers increase to $3.40, officials added. Those who have purchased stickers at the previous rate of $3.25 can use their remaining supply through June 30, 2018, without having to pay the difference. Prices for the three available refuse carts will increase by about $1 per month, according to the Geneva's contract with Advanced Disposal.
